Firstly we pulled together interested parties to form our iiNet Environmental Committee. Throughout the year, these committee members worked towards raising the level of environmental awareness and responsibility amongst our staff. We know everyone loves a freebie, so to get the ‘green’ word out our staff were given an iiNet KeepCup and the chance to win a power meter to measure their energy use at home.
iiNet also became the official internet partner of Daysofchange.org – a program that connects people with information and support to live and work in more sustainable ways. As always our staff were keen to get involved and showed their support for a range of events including Walk to Work Day, MobileMuster and National Recycling Week.
Some of our environmental initiatives had benefits for customers too. We made good on our promise to donate $1 to tree planting for every new residential customer who joined us in May 2010. This raised over $8,300 (which we bumped up to $10,000), that translates to more than 3300 Mallee Eucalypts planted. Last year we also powered up our brand new state-of-the-art (and energy efficient) data centre in Osborne Park, WA.
We like to think that 2010 was a great step in the right direction and expect 2011 will bring even closer to developing a strong culture of environmental responsibility here at iiNet.
