iiNet sponsors Miss Universe WA for 2012

by Annabel Slade

iiNet would like to announce its sponsorship of the Miss Universe WA contest for 2011-2012. As big supporters of events within our home state, especially those that are devoted to charity, iiNet and Miss Universe WA are a great fit. To shake things up a little this year, we’ll have our Miss Social Networker winner from Miss Universe WA 2010-2011, Annabel Slade, popping in regularly throughout the contest to keep us in the loop. And now over to Annabel…

Where to begin! After being a Miss Universe WA entrant for the past three years, I was lucky enough to place in the top 20 and win the iiNet Miss Universe WA Social Networker 2011 award for my work spreading the word about ToyBox International and the Miss Universe WA pageant on the world wide web.
Throughout the years I have gained so much from the experience and have made some of my best friends. There is nothing like the Miss Universe WA competition from the networking events, right down to public speaking on stage.

During the Miss Universe WA program, my favourite experience would have to have been Emma Pocock speaking with the top 24 in 2011 about women’s rights and her experiences of working with women who have fallen victim to horrific crimes throughout the world. Her experiences and her openness moved each one of us and I truly understood how lucky we were to be young, Australian women. Her words have made me alter my perception of what is valuable in life so I have now stepped up my involvement with charities around the world.

This year, I’ve decided to go behind the scenes and help with the new crop of talent who might be hoping to gain confidence and experience or become the next Miss Australia for 2012. I believe that every girl has something fantastic to offer to the competition and each of us learns something from one another in the process.

The 2012 search will be even bigger and better than the previous years. Every time registration rolls around, Sophia, Troy and the Pink Tank family strive to make it not only a competition, but something that allows young women to continuously develop professionally and personally from.

If you’re umming and ahhing, I say go for it! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. I should be testament to the fact that it’s the best competition around having entered it more than once. Let your star shine and you never know, you could be the next WA girl to hold the crown in 2012!
