Competition Increases for Top Geeks

by Michael Corry

Ten days ago our Top Geeks were given a challenge to weed out the contenders from the wannabes. Their challenge: create an invention in concept and deliver it in the form of an engaging video. Now we’ve narrowed down the group of finalists, let’s take a look at those who impressed our judges in this round.

Our highest scoring geek Jason entered his idea for a Modular Upgradeable Television. Our new judge Simon Hackett gave the idea rave reviews claiming “I’d probably buy one! It might actually stop people throwing out their old TVs to get new ones.”

Andy put forth a great presentation of his Facebook Surrogate concept which involved Facebook commenting and ‘liking’ things on a person’s behalf so they can maintain their online – “It’d bloody sell!” enthused Hackett who also gave his level of presentation high marks.

Those who scored lowest and were eventually eliminated were essentially those who the judges felt hadn’t succeeded in either an original concept or in an engaging presentation.

From online geek social networks to electronic dancing shoes, from frozen coke machine finders to tiny robots our geeks have certainly been busy. If you’d like to check out the rest of our iiNet Top Geek entrants and judge for yourself, head to the iiNet YouTube channel.

Next up for our geeks is Challenge number 2: The Script. Our geeks must prove their knowhow on pop culture by preparing either a book, comic, film or television show and present it to us in a video, storyboard, animation or comic. Essentially we want to squeeze the creative juices out of our geeks.

In the meantime, keep an eye out on the Top Geek site for which of our finalists are still in the running and check in on the blog for who makes it through to the next round of challenges.
