We don’t want to ruin the surprise but we can tell you iiNet’s Ultimate Showbag will be chock full of retro toys, must-have gadgets and entertainment goodies as well as the kind of fun extras that made showbags so special back when we were knee high to a grasshopper!

Stay tuned to our Facebook page to find out more, or why not tell us in the comments below – what’s your dream prize?

iiNet’s Ultimate Showbag Competition will close on August 20th, 2012 – see our terms and conditions for more info!

UPDATE – iiNet’s Ultimate Showbag now contains the Samsung SIII, Connect 4, ‘The Avengers’ comic, ‘X-men’ comic, Bertie Beetles lollies , some surprise iiNet goodies, a magician’s set, tickets to a concert and a PS3!

UPDATE 2 – We have a winner! 3 in fact…

Natasha Shan, who won us over with this great meme entry featuring her cat:

Tim Phillips, who crafted this witty poem capturing everything he loves about iiNet’s Utlimate Showbag:

What I love most

About iiNet’s Ultimate Showbag

Is the array of delights,

And entertainment filled nights

Does my heart desire a sleek PS3,

Or a shiny new Samsung Galaxy?

Although, reading The Avengers and X-Men is preferred

By those like myself – a proud, noble nerd

A family evening of magic

And Connect 4 may seem tragic

But would be truly completed

With the Bertie Beetles – depleted!

Free tickets to a concert

For a musician’s more than nice,

But what I await most

Is the surprise iiNet merchandise!

Jasmine Nelson, who gave the judges a giggle with this clever play on words:

I-ndulge in some luxuries

I-t’s filled with comics, tickets, lollies

N-ow my life feels complete

E-specially with nice treats

T-hank you for the ultimate goodies

Thank you again to everyone who entered. We were blown away by the high volume of great entries and it was a tough job choosing just three deserving winners.

Stay tuned for more fun competitions, coming soon!

Retro toys? I would like to see a MINT “The Six Million Dollar Man- The Bionic Man”. It was and is the coolest retro toy EVER. you could look through a hole in the back of the box right through his “Bionic Eye” (1975 figure). Ahhh those were the days :D

    • Louise Moran says:

      Nice suggestion Al,

We might need to put that in the suggestion pile for a geeky competition!

@Louise Moran, Hello Louise, What a great idea to be able to choose some of the gadgets in your showbag prize!!! I would love to see a prepaid iPhone in this Wow-tastic showbag with an iBGstar – this nifty little gadget is new in Australia and allows you to have Diabetes management on the go! It’s a Blood glucose monitor that connects to your iPhone or iPod touch to analyse your current blood glucose levels in mere seconds. As a casually employed teacher between many schools, I’m always on the go, this would make a very positive difference to my world!

  2. Pete J says:

My dream retro toy prize would be a Virtual Boy! I’ve played one before very briefly and it was something else.

As for gadgets, night-vision contact lenses* for me please.

    *May require inventing

    • Louise Moran says:

      Hi Pete,

Sadly, for the moment we’re constrained to existing inventions but night-vision contact lenses sound awesome!

      All the best,

A Nikon D800 with an 18-399 mm lens

    • Louise Moran says:

      Hey Robert,

Nice idea! Perhaps we should run a photography competition in the future as a Nikon camera would be a really awesome prize.

      Kind regards,

  4. Shane says:

Suprised nobody has mentioned the almighty Tamagotchi!

    • Louise Moran says:

      Hi Shane,

That’s a very retro techie toy alright! We’ve seen some Tamagotchi apps out there, plus the Furby is making a high tech return.

We’ve had some great recommendations for retro toys so we may have to run it as another competition in the future.

      Thanks for commenting!

An uncomplicated coffee making machine, I had to divorced the last one!

An excellent retro toy prize would be a *complete* set of Matchbox Diecast Toy Cars! Really Retro, not the plastic stuff! They can survive the toughest conditions you can dream up and come back for more!

    • Louise Moran says:

      Nice suggestions Brett :)

We’ve had so many people suggest retro toys. We’re thinking maybe we should have a whole competition dedicated to them!

Sven the stretch doll awesome retro toy

  10. Andrew says:

For the iiNet show bag a Pebble watch – wwww.getpebble.com . I like my Rip Curl Ultimate Oceansearch watch as it fits my image but my techie side is curious about the Pebble and don’t think I would buy one but if given one I would be wrapped and then would have to wear it. I think anyone entering this show bag comp likes tech toys and would enjoy this watch with it’s Bluetooth 4.0 it can connect to iPhone and Android smart phones.

    • Louise Moran says:

      Great suggestion Andrew,

A pebble watch is definitely fits the discription of a showbag worthy toy for grownups :)

A months free access would be nice.

    • Louise Moran says:

      Hey Leanne,

Thanks for the comment. This competition is more about the fun prizes you find in a showbag but we do get a lot of requests for free subscriptions and hardware so keep your eyes peeled for future competitions!

  13. Melissa S says:

Hey iinet I would love to enter this competion but I don’t have a facebook account so how else can i enter???

    • Louise Moran says:

      Hi Melissa!

To enter the competition you need to email competitions@iinet.net.au and finish the sentence “What I love most about the iiNet Ultimate Showbag is…”

However, voting for what goes in to the Ultimate Showbag is done through our Facebook polls.

So you can still enter, but it might be a bit more of a surprise if you win – just like showbags!

      Hope that explains things!

      Louise Moran

  14. I think the best Item for the showbag would be an Ipad3

    • Louise Moran says:

The iPad 3 was one of the items on offer Judith, but it was pipped to the post by the Samsung SIII phone in our polls!

Make sure to head over to our Facebook page to vote in our polls to find out what’s next to go in our Ultimate Showbag :)

      Louise Moran
      Blog editor

  15. John says:

Sadly, I no longer use Facebook can not enter. Other options for us not using FB?

    • Louise Moran says:

      Hi John,

Yes, the competition is still open to everyone even if they aren’t using Facebook.

The most important step is to email competitions@iinet.net.au and answer our tie break question by finishing the sentence “What I love most about the iiNet Ultimate Showbag is…” as that’s where we’ll draw the winner from.

However, voting in our daily Facebook polls is the only way you can choose what goes in the Ultimate Showbag.

We’ll be updating the blog with the latest items in the Showbag as the competition progresses so you can still keep track of the awesome prizes in our Ultimate Showbag Competition.

      Best of luck!

  16. I’d love a Retro Donkey Kong dual screen original Nintendo flip hand held game in the Ultimate Showbag. I haven’t clocked one of those in ages… shows my age doesn’t it?

    • Louise Moran says:

That’d be an awesome prize Steve.

Perhaps we need to look into that for a retro games contest :)

If you’re a gamer there’s still more awesome prizes to go so make sure to vote in our polls!

      Louise Moran

  17. Varg says:

Generation one digimon tamagotchi. Now that is a retro prize worth entering for. They still are so highly popular and know cost a small fortune to grab from ebay.

    • Louise Moran says:

Now that is a blast from the past :)

Retro toys are having quite a revival with Furby also getting an upgrade.

There are some awesome Tamagotchi apps out there too.

We might have to have a separate retro toy competition since we have had so many comments about retro toys to spark off your nostalgia!

  30. Mike says:

    These would go a treat!

The zero-g coffee cup to look awesome on that coffee table.

Once you’ve finished your adrenalin filled gaming session. You’ll want some quality soap for that shower.

… and just before bedtime. This is essential!

  42. Roger Large says:

My first ask for the show bag is to keep up the fantastic work you do. I joined IINET nearly 12 months ago and just recently i had some more problems. The way i have been treated by your crews from Aussie, NZ and Africa offices is just incredible. I doubt if you could find better people to handle your company it has been a pleasure the way they help with the small and big problems i have had.
My only other show bag asking is a new mobile phone the one i have is an original LG flip a few years old now. Just an ordinary phone without all these flash gadgets i don’t need them.

    • Louise Moran says:

      Hi Roger,

Thanks – it’s lovely to hear your feedback.

  45. jane whelan says:

Also a great showbag should have a family bowling pass, and family movie ticket oe Luna Park family pass. maybe a pre paid visa card or iinet sim card with a months free credit. As well as a few cheap toys such as a water pistol and a few toys that will break in minutes leaving you in tears, as all good showbags from the 70’s had.

    • Louise Moran says:

Hi Jane, There will be some entertainment options coming up this week – definitely prizes that people can enjoy with their families and friends!

Hopefully our prize will be more robust than the typical easy-to-break showbag toys though :)

  46. Judith Baker says:

    How about a Meccano Set!
I used to have hours of fun with one of these back in the 60-70’s.
I’d also thought about a treadmill but squeezing it into a showbag might be bit hard :)

    • Louise Moran says:

Wow, we are going to need a bigger Ultimate Showbag with all these requests ;)

We’ve had a lot of great retro toy suggestions but you’ll have to keep your eyes peeled for the polls this week to find out what else will make it into our Ultimate Showbag!

Now on the NBN system with iiNET SATILITE just love the Internet and what it offers. Can now use Face book and keep in touch with friends and up to date with products and services. If you make the Show bag big enough you may be able to get a small car in, need a new set of wheels but would setle for a new DSLRcanon camera.

    • Louise Moran says:

      A new car, eh?

That would be a pretty epic prize for the Ultimate Showbag but I’m not sure we can quite fit that in ;)

Coolest tech toy ever (for one brief shining moment in 1977 anyway): Texas Instruments . I’m pretty sure all my showbags back then only contained Phantom comics though…

    • Louise Moran says:

      Hi Steve,

Our Ultimate Showbag will have comic books from ‘X-Men’ and ‘The Avengers’ but there’s still lots more to come!

    Epic.

  50. Kerri Davey says:

A Retro toy I would love to come back would be Chrissy, You could make her hair grow by twisting a knob on her back, and by pushing her belly button it would shorten her hair. I did not get much time with her as our family pet dog loved her too and destroyed her…:-(

    • Louise Moran says:

      Hi Kerri,

We were thinking of a a retro toy ruined by childhood competition as we also had someone who lost their favourite toy down a drain somewhere!

Hope you are enjoying the Ultimate Showbag Competition.
