The rundown: Bohemian Rhapsody is the celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury, who defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers of all time. The film follows the rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound, their near-implosion as Mercury’s lifestyle spirals out of control, and their triumphant reunion where Mercury, facing a life-threatening illness, leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music at Live Aid. This story of a band that were always more like a family, and who continue to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day will have you dancing in your seat and singing along.

The rundown: Roma, which is a semi-autobiographical take on Cuarón’s upbringing in the Colonia Roma neighborhood of Mexico City.  Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón has written, directed, produced and co-edited this vivid, emotional portrait of a live-in housekeeper of a middle-class family and their journey during the domestic and political turmoil of Mexico in the 1970’s.

The rundown: Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Spike Lee, “BlacKkKlansman” is based on the incredible true story of Ron Stallworth, Colorado Springs’s first African American police officer who successfully infiltrated the Ku Klux Klan in the 1970s. With the help of his partner Flip Zimmerman, Stallworth was able to deceive Grand Wizard David Duke and rise through the ranks of the KKK to become the head of a local chapter in Colorado.
