Talk Like a Pirate Day a tradition for ii(aye aye!)Net

by Nikkita Dixon

Swap your “hellos” for “ahoy matey!” and be sure to drop a good “aarrrrrr” at the end of your sentences today to celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

The yearly tradition for folk at iiNet began a long time ago, longer than anyone can remember. It’s is always accompanied by a bit of cheery pirate talk in the foyers plus a pirate theme to our website.

If you’re new to the national holiday, the story goes a little like this:

In 1995, John ‘Ol’ Chumbucket’ Baur and Mark ‘Cap’n Slappy’ Summers began the tradition of talking like a pirate after a racquetball injury and the resulting ‘arrrrr!’ that followed.

Since then, the holiday has become a global sensation with punters donning their most swashbuckling of outfits, singing hearty tunes and of course, talking like a pirate.

Be sure to add your own pieces o’ eight in the comments below and head to our customer home page to get in on the action.

For now though, the plank’s not gettin’ any longer so I’ll fare thee well me hearties.
