Ways to treat your Mum this Mother’s Day

Although we like to show our mums how much they mean to us every day, Mother’s Day (May 13th so you don’t forget!) is a special day to spend the day with your family and show your appreciation for your mother and mother figures in your life.

Taking the time and effort to think of a truly unique gift that is the perfect fit for your mum is a lot more special than spending lots of money on her. If you don’t want to give mum the same old choccies and flowers this year – we’re here to save the day!

Pinterest has an endless array of ideas from a DIY rock cactus pots to body scrubs and Mother’s Day jars. To make the choice easy, we’ve put together some super unique ways you can put a smile on her dial and treat your mother dearest!

Cook up a storm

Why not jump in the kitchen with the kids and whip up mums favourite treats! You may opt for brekkie in bed served on a beautifully laid out tray with a freshly squeezed juice and coffee so mum can sleep in, or bake up some treats you know mum will love to indulge in. If lunch is more mum’s thing, you could put together a picnic and have it packed up and ready to enjoy at a local park. If you’re looking for some recipes to tackle with the kids, check out Kidspot’s recipe list on their blog.

A subscription box

Whether your mum is a foodie, loves sweet smelling candles, trying new beauty products, or is a chocoholic, you’ll be sure to find a subscription box that she’ll love. Smartass and Sass and Subscription Box have a huge range of gift boxes to choose from. Simply pick one that has her name all over it and it will be delivered straight to her door!

Get active

Around Australia there are a number of Mother’s day classic events taking place on Sunday 13th of May. Maybe you can get out with the family and walk or run for breast cancer research and follow it up with brunch at a local café! If this sounds like something your mum would love to do while supporting a great cause, don’t forget to register as a team or individual to walk and run this event.

Make it personal

If your mum loves a gift that’s truly one-of-a-kind and personal, this one’s for you! Nowadays you can put your fave photo on almost anything! Whether it’s a personalised mug, photobook, or canvas, you’ll be able to get your creative juices flowing on Snapfish and create a truly personalised gift.

How about you take those pics off of Insta with Pocket Prints and get them printed into magnets for the fridge so mum can always see your smiling faces? If you’re an avid story teller you may prefer to put onto paper how much you appreciate everything your mum does. LoveBook has a range of Mother’s Day books that you can personalise, or you can start from scratch and create your own!

Is your mum the adventurous type? I recommend checking out some of the once-of-a-lifetime experiences in your local area. Red balloon has a gift guide so you can find the best experience for your mum that she will remember for years to come. Will you choose indoor skydiving, an Adelaide oval roof top climb, a swim with the whale sharks in WA, or a quad biking or horse riding experience in NSW?

Get snap happy

We love any excuse for a photo shoot! Why not get scrubbed up and pick a spot that is special to you and your mum and set up a photo shoot. Whether you have your phone, a Polaroid camera, a pro digital camera, or even a disposable camera just for fun, you’re bound to get some snaps that will bring a huge smile to your mums face and she will cherish dearly!

A little pampering

Does your mum deserve a day at the spa getting pampered or an indulgent high tea? You’ll find plenty of locations and packages on Scoopon and Groupon. A nice dinner out may even be more her thing, but while you’re looking up locations why not seek out a new restaurant to try or give the special ‘chef’s Table’ option a go. Check out this list of special dining events happening around Aus for some grand ideas!
